Regarding to the characters, I liked Elizabeth, the ******e,though I didn't think she's beautiful. But she's smart. However, I didn't pay much attention to the plot. I thought it's so long that it made me impatient and bored. By now, I haven't read the whole story in English or its Chinese version, either. I owe it to my prejudice.

In fact, I didn't understand the story at that time. I didn't know why it called Pride and Prejudice. Of course someone was pride, but I didn't find where' s the prejudice. I thought it's normal, the way people treated each other in that. I considered prejudice would be very disgusting. But to the movie everthing was OK in my minds, except its length. Now, I think I have understood more about it. I'm a prejudiced person so I can't find where's wrong. I merely like to do the things I like. Somebody said Santiago was a failure. Because at last he said he wishes that it had been a dream and the boy cried for him can really approve it. In this way I think Santiago was a lucky person. Because he still had Mandolin. The boy loved him and pitied him. If Mandolin had no money his own, he begged or stole to make sure that Santiago had enough to eat and fresh baits for his lines. This semester, we saw the movie —《The old man and the sea》. The movie which was adapted from the novel written by Hemingway tells us a story about an old man fight against the nature.

The novel narrates an old fisherman named Santiago didn’t catch a fish after 84 days on the sea. Finally, he made a decision that going fishing to the unfamiliar sea area. the Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingways most enduring works and may very well become one of the true classics of this generation. It played a GREat part in his winning the Pulizer Prize in 1953 and the 1954 Novel Prize for Literature and confirmed his power and presence in the literary world. Hemingway is also one of my favorite writers. Besides The Old Man And the Sea, I have read some of his other works, such as The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms and The Snow of Kilimanijaro. But The Old Man and the Sea is the one that left the deepest impression on me.

I first read this book when I was in my fifteens. And now I remember it just as well as if I had read it yesterday.

Pride and Prejudice is a chefdoeuvre.

My first impression of this story was from screen.

Its long long ago, maybe before I can read english books. I dont remember which movie edition I had seen. But I was impressed by the music, the scenery and the costume. I was very favor of a section of music in its balls. Its pretty brisk, liked a wonderful song of a bird. Regarding to the characters, I liked Elizabeth, the heroine,though I didnt think shes beautiful. But shes smart. However, I didnt pay much attention to the plot. I thought its so long that it made me impatient and bored. By now, I havent read the whole story in English or its Chinese version, either. I owe it to my prejudice.

In fact, I didnt understand the story at that time. I didnt know why it called Pride and Prejudice. Of course someone was pride, but I didnt find where s the prejudice. I thought its normal, the way people treated each other in that. I considered prejudice would be very disgusting. But to the movie everthing was OK in my minds, except its length. Now, I think I have understood more about it. Im a prejudiced person so I cant find wheres wrong. I merely like to do the things I like. Everytime I meet somebody or something,my thinking about he or it all depends on my foregone experience and my mood of the time.

The novel tells a story that an old man almost sixty years went to sea and fished alone in Santiago. The old fisherman had got nothing for eighty-four days and he almost died because of hunger. However, contrary to common people`s thought, he did not give up. In the eighty-fifth day, he fished a huge marlin whose body was eighteen feet in length, 1500 pounds in weight. The fish was so large that none of the Santiago`s fisherman had had got one. The old man fight with the large marlin for 3 days without any food, water and arms, and finally killed it. But, in the back journey, lots of small sharks ate out the marlin. As a result, the old man came back Santiago with the big marlin skeleton frame.

I think every reader will be dee* moved by the old fisherman as me. On the one hand, I am sympathy of his failure. On the other hand, I have a great esteem for the old man`s persistence and courage. Although he became old and failed, he still made great efforts and showed a positive attitude on failure. The novel shows us an outlook on life of striving——faced with the unconquerable nature, humans still can win in spirit. Maybe the result is failure, in the process of striving, however, we can see a man of indomitable spirit.

The Old Man And The Sea This is a great book, mind you. How I gave opinions to that is the spirits of Santiago greatly affected me. But the author, Earnest Hemingway said if his writing is really good, then the characters can also be many other things. Santiago is a common fisherman, and he hadnt had a fish for 84 days. And this time when he left he fished a big salmon by himself. He fought the fish for 3 days and nights and finally he kills it. He called it his brother. But he then had to fight the sharks and finally he gone home with a fish spine, and some fish bones. I could find his great spirits of never giving up. Particularly if he just loose the grip of the fishing poleand let the fish go, he wouldnt have any trouble, but he can stay to the end. Something I regret to tell you is that I didnt read this book very carefully, so I intend to tell you I want to read this book again and tell you what Ive gained through the second-time reading.
